The official label
This is what the mandatory labelling looks like
On the left, the notice on the statutory warranty that every shop must display. On the right, the GARAN label, which is added if the manufacturer's guarantee is longer than two years. Both are prescribed EU-wide and are embedded unchanged.

What has changed
The basis is the European Directive (EU) 2024/825 on empowering consumers. It introduces two standardised notices intended to inform buyers of their rights before they make a purchase.
- Warranty label: Mandatory for all retailers who sell goods to consumers.
- Guarantee label (“GARAN”): additionally required if the manufacturer gives a free durability guarantee of more than two years on the entire product.
On marketplaces too
The obligation applies not only in your own shop, but also to retailers on Amazon, eBay and other marketplaces. What matters is who the buyer's contractual partner is.
How the label must be displayed
- Unchanged: Design and texts are prescribed and must not be adapted.
- In colour and clearly visible, not hidden in the footer or terms and conditions.
- Before the contract is concluded, i.e. at the latest during the ordering process.
- For the guarantee label, only the guarantee period, manufacturer and model are to be entered.
Risk of legal warnings
Missing, altered or incorrectly placed labels can be the subject of legal warnings under competition law. Precisely because the label is uniform, deviations are quickly noticed.
