How could my website be hacked?
Most likely an automated attack succeeded because of a vulnerability in a component or a plugin, or your security precautions (password, permissions) were not sufficient. It is rare for hackers to target a specific site. Hacking programs try to access huge numbers of websites. The weak point usually lies in outdated plugin or template versions or in old, inactive themes. The provider is almost never responsible.
What are the consequences of a hack?
If scripts send out masses of spam emails, the domain ends up on blacklists and your emails are blocked; the host then usually deactivates the account. Malware can spread to your visitors' computers, and domain owners can be held liable for damage. Hackers can redirect your site to other addresses. This scares off prospects and customers and quickly leads to lost revenue.
My website can no longer be reached. Can you still help?
Yes. If your provider has blocked the site for security reasons, we install the entire website including the database on our local server and carry out all measures there. Together with your provider, the block is then lifted in no time.
How can I tell whether my website has really been hacked or whether it is just a technical error?
Typical signs of a hack are redirects to other websites, unknown content in the Google results, warnings in the browser or a block by the host. A pure error usually shows up as a white page or an error message without foreign content. If in doubt, we check this free of charge in a short initial assessment.
What should I do before you start the cleanup?
If possible, don't change anything in the installation and don't delete any files, as this destroys traces that lead us to the point of entry. Note down since when you have noticed something, and have the login details for hosting and the backend ready.
For which systems do you clean hacked websites?
We clean WordPress, Joomla, TYPO3 as well as shops based on WooCommerce, VirtueMart and PrestaShop. We also take a look at custom-built PHP sites if the server is accessible.
Do you work with my hosting provider?
Yes. We resolve many blocks directly with the provider as soon as the cleanup has been documented. We work closely with several large hosting providers as a partner, which often speeds up the unblocking considerably.
Will I receive documentation after the cleanup?
You receive an easy-to-understand summary: what was found, how the attacker got in, what was removed and secured and which next steps we recommend.
Can a hacked website permanently damage my Google ranking?
If the hack goes unnoticed for a longer time, the site loses visibility and Google displays warnings. After a complete cleanup and the lifting of the warning, the ranking usually recovers; the faster you act, the better.
Do you also help if the website was built by another agency?
Of course. Who built the site plays no role in the cleanup. On request, we also coordinate with your agency.
