What is HTTPS?
Because ideally your WordPress site should have been switched to the current standard of encrypted data transfer since 2017. The transfer protocol is called HTTPS, and you've surely seen it in your browser bar before.
To be able to use the ‘s’ for ‘secure’, a so-called SSL certificate has to be set up. This certificate encrypts all data traffic between your WordPress site and your customer.
This way, form data is protected against unauthorised access. SSL certificates are basically your parents, who forbid the hacker kid next door from simply attaching his own can to the line between you and your buddy. Sorry, not sorry. He'll have to play somewhere else.
By the way: websites with an SSL certificate are clearly preferred in search engine results.
Since 2017, browsers such as Chrome and Firefox have flagged websites without an SSL certificate as insecure.
