Blocked by your host: how to get your website unblocked

Hosts suspend packages to protect other customers and their own mail server. For you this means: the site is offline, emails may no longer go out, and reactivation is only granted against proof of the clean-up.

Why providers suspend

  • A virus scanner has found malicious code in your files.
  • Masses of spam emails were sent via your package.
  • Attacks on other servers originated from your site.
  • Phishing pages were placed in your web space and reported.

How to proceed

  • Read the host's notification in full and note the affected files or time periods.
  • Clarify whether you still have access via FTP, SSH or the file manager.
  • Have it cleaned up and close the point of entry in the process, not just the reported files.
  • Explain to the host in writing what was found, removed and secured.
  • After reactivation, test mail sending and forms.

Tip

Many hosts have their own abuse or security teams. Factual, technically documented feedback speeds up reactivation considerably.

When the domain is on spam lists

If spam was sent via your server, the IP address or domain sometimes ends up on public blocklists. Then even normal business emails no longer arrive. After the clean-up, these entries can be removed again via the respective operators.
